The first most noticeable thing was the lights. In a perpetually dreary place like Gotham they could stay on no matter the time of day, casting a warm glow all about the streets and parks that had been connected to create the Charity Carnival. The streets were opened up during the day so that people could get to and from work, then in the evening they were blocked off so that pedestrians could meander about freely withoiut worrying about the cross walks. But whether in cars or on foot; they could always see the lights.

In the inter connected parks scattered around the Wayne Resilient tower there were myriad attractions:

Boothes where games could be played for prizes,
Rides,
Foods of all kinds (mostlly either fried or sugar coated),
and even a small section where locals had rented tables to sell arts and crafts that had been hand made.

And at the center of it all was the Wayne Resilient tower which contained a 5 star restaurant that was the staging area for the Celebrity Date Auction to be held later in the week.

Even the first two floors of the building had been repurposed into a kind of exhibit featuring current and upcoming Waynetech devices designed to improve the lives of the people who used them. Including the prototype for a brand new line of Waynetech smart cars. The event was in honor of the 4th of July but the entire week had been scheduled and included things like live music, fire breathers, gymnasts and a petting zoo.

And on the night of the 4th of course; a fantastic fireworks display arranged by Wayne Resilient with another new innovation of theirs; safe fireworks. Specially designed for sound and color and burst with no heat behind it to endanger fireworks handlers or civilians.

With everything that had been planned and all the staffing involved it was truly looking to be a week to remember.

Deep-fried twinkie providing zen-like insight, huh? Jason could get behind that. "All right, all right, lemme have a bite there." Actually, that was pretty damn good. His smirk was now replaced by a friendlier simple grin, and Jason leaned back in his seat, finishing off his corndog.

"You're all right, Mindy, for a New Yorker. Anything else beside the carnival bring you to Gotham?"

"Thanks!" She said around a mouthful of deep fried dough and sugar creme. "You too, for a boy." She finished the rest of the twinkie gradually, indulging in it, digging some of the creme out with her fingers, peeling off the batter, and so forth.

"Nope. I heard about the carnival and wanted to come. What kid doesn't wanna go to carnivals?"

"They are kind of the modern Wonderland..." Though that made him think of Tetch, and if any kind of raving psychopath would interrupt a charity carnival, it'd be the Hatter.

Wait. Calm down. The Hatter was still in Arkham for now, right? Sighing, Jason brought a hand to his temple. "Man, what a day. Let me know when you're ready to go on that Ferris Wheel, even if am just alright 'for a boy'."

Almost inevitably a woman came floating through the carnival streets. Literally. She was wearing a black and red suit with a red coat, her raven hair bobbing behind her as she went through holding up a picture and asking random strangers "Have you seen this girl?" But the other park goers kept shaking their heads. Mia didn't think she would really get anywhere, but she was doing a favor for Kara; the closest thing to a relative she had for now. So she went on to the next group and finally headed towards the man with black hair, her approach blocking her view of the girl standing next to him.

"Uhm, hello sir. Have you seen this girl?" She asked him as she held up a rough but recognizable sketch of Mindy that Kara had drawn up for her to carry around.

Mindy was licking her fingers free of deliciousness as Mia came over. She managed to snatch a glimpse of the posters, but even more, the overwhelming feeling of power and strength that came off the young woman in waves. It was so much like Kara it was scary.

She stared at Jason, her eyes wide and cheeks pale. She tried to discreetly shake her head as she ducked behind her cloud of cotton candy. Under the table, she aimed to kick his shin in warning.

If only she could rustle up some sort of distraction...

"Huh? Nah, I haven't seen anyone like that." There was something different at that moment, something that maybe Mindy would have been in a better position to tell than Mia. That was that Jason seemed to lie very well. There was no difference at all in his tones between claiming not to have seen Mindy and the tones he was using to converse with her.

Jason wasn't without tools at any time, and he certainly wasn't unobservant, either. One of the lesser visited food booths caught the corner of his eye. An unfortunate target, but no real harm would come to anyone. He stood to face Mia, the better to aim a smoke bomb behind his back at and launch it underneath the food trailer, letting the sudden burst of thick smoke speak for itself. "Hey, do you smell something burning?" Because of course he wouldn't be able to see it while facing Mia.

"Oh?" She looked disappointed, and was about to move on to the next group when the man commented on the smoke and she turned around to see it billowing out of a food booth. Abruptly Mia's feet were on the ground as she headed over to investigate, giving a quick but nevertheless apologetic wave to the man as she began concentrating on cold thoughts so she'd have her frost breath primed in case of a fire. Plus she also had to make sure the booth owner was okay.

Mindy breathed a sigh of relief as she watched the tiny smoke bomb exude it's cloud. She inched away, then inched away some more. Then in that magical way kids do when one isn't looking...

She was gone.

He'd expected as much. Jason had long ago learned the value of disappearing, too, and it was that experience that led him down the path he walked once Mia was suitably distracted.

He wouldn't have been surprised if he found Mindy sooner than later, really.

Mindy pushed and weaved through the crowd, and if Jason was eagle eyed enough he would see her hat-wearing head duck into the hall of mirrors.

So that's where she was going, huh? Well, there were few better places to lose someone with supervision. He followed in only after making sure Mia was still distracted, glancing back to the booth to confirm she was indeed not looking his way.

With a small, almost self-congratulatory nod, he opened the door and strolled into the house of mirrors. Now if he could only find his "date".

Mindy looked around, trying to find a place to hide out but everything was ultimately a dead end. She considered ripping a mirror off the wall and hiding behind it, but that could give off too much of a trail.

She looked up, nothing to grab on to.

In the end Jason found her staring at a mirror which obscured her in such away that she was accordion shaped, pretending to smile.

"Hey." It didn't seem like any other greeting was really needed. Jason approached slowly, hands in his pockets and expression neutral, if ... confused, slightly.

"You wanna tell me what that was all about?" It seemed a valid question.

As soon as she heard Jason, her smile fell off her face.

"No." Mindy said, scuffing her shoe on the rubbery ground that this tiny structure had, a measure to keep kids who fell over from getting seriously hurt.

"You can talk to me, you know. But if you'd rather wait, that's cool, too."

Another pause, but this question had to be asked. "Tell me the truth on this, at least. Do you have a place to stay tonight?"

She scowled at him. "Why should I tell you anything?" she asked, marching up to him. "I don't even know you." She got close, standing on her tiptoes and glaring at him. "Also," she whispered. "This place echoes like crazy, Einstein."
